Sometimes, when you hang out with an infant all day, you catch yourself saying the strangest things. Cases in point . . .
“Are you my little pickle? I think you are? Are you going to be a sour dill pickle or a sweet little gherkin. Let’s be a gherkin today!”
“Mommy just ate 4 cookies. I don’t know if you know this about me, but I am a really good cookie eater, like one of the best. What’s that you ask- is it limited to cookies or do I enjoy cake and cupcakes too? Well, I’m not gonna lie- I won’t say no to the occasional brownie, but other than that I stick to cookies.”
When I relayed that “conversation” to Brad via text he responded with “make sure to tell him how good I am at eating hummus.”
Even thought Otis is 2 months young we want to make sure he gets to fully experience Northern California’s offerings- the great outdoors and tons of festivals and events.
One perk of living in a small town like Petaluma is the existence of the Petaluma Mother’s Club that capitalizes on the resources in our backyard. Otis and Becky became members when he was a month old. Here is Otis taking advantage of his first play date in the park with 10 other babies born in 2014.
While we have tons of activities and places we want to visit, sometimes a trip to the grandparents’ house is all that is needed. Here is Otis taking in the sights and smells of the Tri-Valley for the first time.
Being in a rural town, there is no shortage of farm and agriculture based events. Obviously we jumped at the opportunity to let Otis experience a pumpkin patch, hay maze, and petting zoo at a real working farm 5 miles from our house. Here he is on that momentous occasion
Even though it is approaching late October we are still enjoying the temperate climate of a California fall. Today we took a trip to the Fall Carnival. Otis was excited to check out the 2 story jumpy house.
While he is still a bit too young for Oktoberfest, we still had a pretty great October!
Today you are 2 months old and we are having so much fun with you. You no longer seem like just a baby. You are now a tiny man complete with an adorable little personality. Your face has begun to give us a window into your thoughts. You have a sleepy face, a grumpy face, a gassy face, and a lot of happy smiley faces. You even stick your tongue out sometimes, and I am pretty sure that you flashed 9 month old Lily a flirty smile the other day. We find you quite hilarious! Here are a few of my favorite smiles captured on camera.
This month you have started learning how to play. You respond to everything around you. You love to lay on your play mat and look at the owl and birdie above your head. You love to look at your dad and me when we are goofing off and trying to make you smile. But most of all you love lying on your changing table. We can’t quite figure out what it is you love about it, but that is definitely your happy place and the spot where we have captured the most smiles. It doesn’t matter if we change you or not. Naked or fully clothed, you are just ecstatic to lie there and smile around the room. You recently added little coos and squeaks to your smiles which ups the cute factor for sure. And you can lift your head, neck, and back up when you play on your tummy. You are quite the strapping young man and it is fun to see you add skills to your repertoire. Here are some photos of you playing.
Some things that you should know about yourself.
1. You are a particularly explosive child. You don’t merely poop, you blast. I thought this was what all babies did until a couple of other moms were like “wow” when you let off one of your audible rockets.
2. You like to chew on your hand. Yup, I did not say suck on your hand. I said chew. Some might find it odd. You find it delicious.
3. You often need to “lose your arm privileges, Continue reading Dear Otis- 2 Months
I got an email today from our good friend, Joffrey. It said:
Is your family’s name mashup ‘Breckis’ (breh-kiss)? That’s how we have your upcoming visit tagged in our calendar.
First of all, I love that he included a pronunciation guide. And second of all, I love Breckis as our new signature. Our cousins use each of their first initials and sign things JAX which sounds super cool. Somehow I don’t think signing things BOB is quite as cool, so Breckis it is!
The baby was sitting on my lap.
The baby explosively pooped in his diaper.
How did the poop end up on the butt of my jeans (not the part he was sitting on) and the couch under that?
We’ll never know.
